The first experiences a puppy has at a grooming salon can set the tone for how they respond to grooming for the rest of their life, so it’s critical to make the experience as pleasant as possible.
When is the best time to introduce puppy to grooming?
Many folks wonder when they should begin grooming their puppy. A puppy’s first grooming appointment can be scheduled two weeks after their second batch of puppy vaccines. Younger puppies are easier to train, so a good early grooming experience will help with long-term grooming, not only for the groomer but also for when you groom your dog at home.
If your puppy is apprehensive, its first visit to the groomer should be a familiarisation appointment that lasts no more than 10-15 minutes. During this time, an expert groomer will introduce the puppy to the studio’s noises and scents, give the puppy lots of cuddles and praise, introduce them to the staff, and generally make their first visit a joyful experience.A one-hour session can be booked for more confident puppies to expose them to the grooming process, which includes a relaxing bath, a gentle fluff dry, and comb out. Depending on how they react, they may also have their nails trimmed, their ears cleaned, and they may be introduced to tooth brushing. However, if the puppy appears to be finished after the wash and blow dry, a follow-up appointment for the nails, ears, and teeth is recommended. During this session, the groomer should also familiarise the puppy with the sound of the clipper while not clipping their hair! I’ll go into more detail about that later. If your puppy has a few stray hairs or needs a trim around the eyes or private area, use scissors to trim it up. It will take 2-3 grooming sessions for the puppy to be completely familiar with the process. Your groomer will propose a plan based on your breed, hair type, and amount of activity.
Puppy’s First Groom introduces your puppy to the benefits of grooming and teaches them to relax in preparation for future treatments. This 60-90 minute therapy is full of cuddling and is appropriate for pups aged 3-6 months who have received all necessary vaccines.
Our puppy grooming is £20.00 for any size or breed of puppy upto 6 months old.
